Happy much-belated New Year?
Jan. 10th, 2010 03:36 amI think it's been a couple of weeks since I updated Dreamwidth/LiveJournal, so I figured maybe I'd better. And no, this has nothing to do with procrastinating on doing other important things. Not at all :)
Unfortunately it is January again. I don't like January, as a rule, because it's so often hot, and hot weather and I do not get along. I always feel lethargic and even kind of sick in the hot weather. Not that I'm a big fan of Melbourne winters either (the temperature is usually okay... but the WIND! Argh!), but I'd love it if we could keep March/April/September/October weather all year 'round.
It also means I haven't been doing a hell of a lot :P I have tried to get back to work on my long-ignored novel from before NaNoWriMo. I'm kind of rewriting it and kind of editing it. I don't really want to rewrite it all over again, but the pacing is horrible on my last almost-complete draft, so it doesn't leave me much choice. :(
There were also some bad scenes (stilted dialogue, characters reacting weirdly -- getting angry too fast, or changing tune too rapidly, or whatever) that need to be rewritten, but tragically they're not all going to plan. It's like half the scenes I write are doomed to be bad, which leaves me with a Zeno's paradox of sorts -- initially I can write a novel where half the scenes are good, then one where three-quarters are good, then where seven-eighths are good, and so on. Let's hope that, just like how Zeno didn't actually prove that it is impossible to reach one's destination, it is not impossible for me to finish my novel. ;)
I've also been procrastinating a lot, of course. Namely, by playing Kingdom of Loathing. Can I just say... most addictive game of all time?! I used to play it ages ago, but then I forgot to log in for sixty consecutive days and my account got deleted for inactivity (back in the days when accounts COULD be deleted for inactivity). This is approximately my fourth attempt to get back into the game, but for once I succeeded.
It's like a parody RPG. The graphics are all stick figures and images of similar artistic merit, there are puns and pop culture references and history references galore... the level 12 quest is begun by KILLING FRANZ FERDINAND... need I go on?! :D But it's utterly playable as well, and terribly addictive.
At least, I am addicted to it. I almost got to ascend today except the Naughty Sorceress, the final villain, killed me nine times in a row :( Need to level up more. Grrrr.
Oh yeah, and my sleeping pattern is all out of whack now, as it inevitably gets in the summer. As I type this, it's after 3.30am. Yay. :|
